Improving lives together.
About Atsika
In the language of northern Madagascar, Atsika means we or us. It is a word often used to invoke a sense of community, unity, and collective experience. Atsika creates educational opportunities for Malagasy people in the Ankarana community through youth scholarships, adult education, and vocational training focused on the ecotourism sector. Adhering to the principles of sustainable, responsible, community-managed ecotourism, Atsika helps the people of the Ankarana region to improve their lives and the lives of their families, whilst promoting environmental conservation and sustainable income generation. Atsika provides access to community-based education and training, designed to build the skills and capacity that allow developing communities to lift themselves out of poverty. As a focal point for Atsika’s activities, community-managed ecotourism can provide a sustainable income for the local community, motivation to gain access to a better education, a greater understanding of the need for environmental conservation, the ability to access healthcare and improve community health, as well as gaining regular access to the basic amenities of a safe, secure, healthy existence.
